Eureka Project E!5820 — 2DLMP
2-D Laser System for Material Processing

Overview Phase I Phase II Phase III Phase IV Contact

The project was submitted and accepted in the Eureka 2011 contest and it started in 2012. The goal of the project is the design and manufacturing of a 2-D Laser System for Material Processing. The project is being developed in partnership between CIVAN Advanced Technologies (SME, Israel) and a Romanian consortium between TECHNOSOFT International SRL (SME) and ICPE SA (IND). The leader of the Romanian partnership is TECHNOSOFT International SRL. Each partner is responsible for one of the three research areas of the projects:

  • CIVAN — development of a new laser type
  • TECHNOSOFT — development of the intelligent drives
  • ICPE — development of high-preformance linerat motors.

Objectives: The project proposes a 2-D laser system for material processing. The processing consists of a continuous tracing of the part's shape by a laser beam. The cutting speed, the laser power and the laser beam size affect the quality of the cut. The main advantages of using a laser machine compared to other processes are high precision and a very low cost of the preparation process, which makes it ideal for quick prototyping and small-series production. The whole process is computerized, very easy to change, flexible, repetitive, and high quality.

Expected results: The project goal will be achieved when all components of the 2D laser material processing system start being being produced. The outcome of the project will be a 2-D laser system for material processing (2DLMP). The Romanian consortium's contribution to the project consists of:

  • An experimental model of equipment for the laser system
  • An experimental model and prototype of the motor and drive
  • The production documentation for all the products developed by each Romanian partner
  • At least one patent application will be recorded by the end of the project
  • Integration of all components into the final product (together with CIVAN)
Workplan:
  • Phase I – Design of an experimental model of the 2-D laser system; design of experimental models of the equipment components and an experimental model of the laser system; tests with the laser system model. Deadline : 30.10.2012
  • Phase II – Design of the linear motor prototype; design of the linear motor drive prototype; protection of trademark; manufacture and testing of the linear motor and of the drive; manufacturing specifications for the laser system equipment. Deadline: 30.10.2013
  • Phase III – Integration of the laser system on the machine; testing of the 2-D laser system equipment; final version of the execution specifications for manufacturing; reports of the economical efects obtained. Deadline: 30.03.2014
  • Phase IV – Reporting of the economical efects obtained. Deadline : 30.03.2015
